Frequently asked questions

What types of fouling does Robla Solo MIL remove?

It dissolves copper, tombac, lead and zinc deposits. These metals originate from projectiles and may gradually coat the bore and reduce accuracy. Molybdenum and pure nickel fouling generally require mechanical removal with an appropriate cleaning tool.

How should Robla Solo MIL be used for routine cleaning?

Confirm that the firearm is unloaded and the chamber is empty. Remove oil from the bore because an oil film reduces the effectiveness of the water-based cleaner. Pass a felt or patch wetted with Robla Solo MIL through the bore, allow approximately 5–10 minutes of working time and remove the dissolved fouling with dry cleaning elements. Repeat as required.

What does blue or green staining on a patch indicate?

Blue or green staining indicates dissolved copper or tombac. Lead and zinc may dissolve without a visible colour change. A brass or bronze cleaning attachment may also react with the cleaner and produce a misleading colour indication.

Can the cleaner be left in the barrel overnight?

A barrel that has merely been wetted with Robla Solo MIL must not be left for several hours. Once the ammonia compounds evaporate, residual water may cause localised corrosion. The manufacturer describes a completely filled and sealed-barrel method for severe fouling, but this must only be performed in accordance with the supplied instructions. Use short working times for routine wet-patch cleaning.

Can Robla Solo MIL damage a blued finish?

The cleaner can attack external bluing. Prevent it from contacting the barrel exterior, receiver, stock or other finished components. If it reaches a blued surface, remove it immediately and rinse or treat the area according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Is Robla Solo MIL suitable for chrome-lined barrels?

According to the manufacturer, the cleaner does not attack an intact chrome layer. Caution is required with damaged or microscopically cracked hard chrome because the cleaner may reach and dissolve an underlying copper layer. Ask the firearm manufacturer about the plating method if uncertain.

Should the bore be oiled after cleaning?

Yes. After removing the metallic fouling, pass dry cleaning elements through the bore and apply a very thin layer of suitable gun oil for corrosion protection. Wipe the bore and chamber dry again before the firearm is fired.

Does Robla Solo MIL also remove powder and carbon fouling?

The product is designed primarily to dissolve metallic projectile deposits. Remove oil before application and, where necessary, clean combustion and carbon residue with a suitable general cleaner first. This allows Robla Solo MIL to reach the metallic fouling more effectively.

What protective equipment should be used?

Wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection and work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Do not inhale vapours or mix the product with other cleaning chemicals. Keep the bottle away from children and tightly closed after use.

When is Ballistol Robla Solo MIL the right choice?

Robla Solo MIL is suitable when ordinary gun oil or a general cleaner no longer removes metallic projectile deposits from the bore. Consider using it when patches show blue or green copper staining, a metallic layer is visible inside the barrel or accuracy has declined after a substantial number of shots.

A regular cleaner is often sufficient for light powder and carbon residue. Robla Solo MIL is a stronger intensive-cleaning product that should be used when required and with a controlled working time. The bore must be dried and protected against corrosion after treatment.

Expert recommendation

Before cleaning, confirm that the firearm is unloaded, the magazine has been removed and the chamber is empty. Work from the chamber end whenever possible and use a bore guide to prevent the chemical from entering the action or trigger mechanism. Remove old oil from the bore before applying Robla Solo MIL. For routine cleaning, allow only a few minutes of working time and repeat short cycles until blue or green staining no longer appears.

Do not leave a merely wetted bore standing for hours. Prevent the cleaner from contacting external blued surfaces and use particular caution with damaged hard-chrome plating. After treatment, remove all solution with dry patches, apply a thin film of corrosion-protection oil and wipe the bore and chamber dry again before firing. Wear gloves and eye protection, provide good ventilation and never mix Robla Solo MIL with other chemicals.

Intensive removal of metallic barrel fouling

Ballistol Robla Solo MIL dissolves copper, tombac, lead and zinc deposits that can reduce barrel accuracy. Controlled working time, thorough removal of the cleaner and a final protective oil film help leave the bore clean and protected after maintenance.
